REMY | ONE YEAR FAMILY PHOTOS

I had the pleasure of photographing Remy when he was just newly introduced to this world (go here to see his newborn photos), and I was thrilled to hang out with this sweet family a year later and document their growth. Remy is precocious and smiley and just adores Mom and Dad and Loki the dog, and they're pretty in love with him too.

MEGAN + MIKE | GRAND RAPIDS PROVIN TRAILS ENGAGEMENT SESSION

Megan and Mike look good in green and in each other's arms. We had a great time hiking around Provin Trails and got to catch some lovely spring blossoms at the nearby apple orchard.

KATIE + LUKE | GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN WEDDING

Katie and Luke's wedding day was filled with so much joy, and I loved being there to capture it! They got married on a lovely April day at Sherman Street Church, and celebrated with all their dear family and friends at the beautiful Frederik Meijer Gardens. There were so many special moments throughout the day - Katie and Luke performing a song together during their ceremony, a gorgeous cake, and - my personal favorite - group folk dancing at the reception! Enjoy these photos chock full of grins and good times, and cheers to the newlyweds!

CHARLIE + WREN | DOWNTOWN GRAND RAPIDS + KIRK PARK ENGAGEMENT SESSION

For Charlie + Wren's engagement session, we strolled around downtown Grand Rapids, then caught a glorious sunset on the shores of Lake Michigan at Kirk Park. These photos are full of warm sun and joyful love; keep an eye out especially for Wren's ring -- Charlie created it himself, and it is stunning!

I've been friends with Charlie for several years, and met his delightful lady Wren last fall. It was instantly evident the love and care they have for each other, and when they got engaged and asked me to photograph their wedding, I could not have been more excited. Charlie and Wren are kind, genuine, truly themselves, and love each other in a way that is inspirational and beautiful. I'm so blessed to know people like these and to be able to celebrate the art of their love.

HAILEY + VLAD | SOUTH HAVEN ENGAGEMENT SHOOT

I had the best time with Hailey and Vlad exploring South Haven during their engagement session. It was my first time in South Haven, so it was super fun to poke around and find new interesting places to shoot. We discovered some cool buildings, bright colors, and glorious sunshine. Hailey and Vlad laughed a lot, showed off some dance moves, and proved that they're pros at sunset beach snuggling. Thanks for letting me be part of capturing your love; can't wait for your wedding day!

Melissa + Marco | Cedar Springs Wedding

Melissa and Marco's wedding day features loads of sun, a pup in a bowtie,  New Holland beer, the most delicious soft pretzels, and some of the kindest people I've ever met.

They spent their wedding day on their beautiful land in Cedar Springs, surrounded by their loved ones, who had come from near and far (Marco's family took a boat all the way from Germany to be there on the wedding day!) to celebrate with them.

Thanks to Melissa and Marco for giving me the honor of documenting your warm, wonderful love story. Cheers to you both!

Therese and Matt are my favorite kind of couple. Kind, hilarious, goofy, and so in love with each other. These photos are full of laughter, dance moves, and some pretty impressive juggling skills.

Sarah (or, a study in why I love living in a city with a million other photographers)

When I first moved out to Grand Rapids over three years ago, a local photographer told me, "GR has the most photographers per capita of any city in the country. Good luck coming out here and getting work, you'll have way too much competition." Not the most encouraging thing to hear, and definitely intimidating, especially since I was far from confident in my capability to be a full-time photographer at that point. But I quickly realized that it's so freaking cool to live in a city with such a thriving arts community. And as much as there may be cons to living in a city inundated by photographers, there are way more pros. One of those pros has been making incredible friends who are as passionate about photography as I am; who are creative and talented and genuinely wonderful people; who inspire me with the way they view the world and create art. I've grown so much as a photographer these past few years, and that has in large part been due to the incredible people I've met and worked with. I can say with confidence that I would not be the photographer I am today if I did not live in a city with such a thriving photography community. Is there competition for clients? Absolutely. Do I have to hustle hard to get the work I want? Fo shizzle. But it makes it so much easier when I have friends hustling alongside me. People who are just as driven, excited, creative, and confused as I am. Who inspire me, and who I can inspire. It's been the bomb. I can't wait to meet more of my fellow GR photographers, and continue to be challenged, influenced, and encouraged by them.

Sarah is one of my new-in-the-past-few-years photographer friends. She's exuberant, passionate, genuine, and always up for getting out to shoot just for fun, which is what we did this night. Danced around to Justin Timberlake, let Sarah's new hat take the spotlight for a while, and left the night feeling revitalized by each other's creativity, and by taking a break in the midst of a crazy busy season to be funky with our cameras just for the heck of it.

*special bonus*: scroll to the end, and you'll see some shots of me that Sarah snapped. Also be sure to check out more of Sarah's work here and here.

Life's more fun when we include others in our trials and joys and creations. Thankful to have friends like Sarah alongside me.

Marissa | Holland Senior Session

Marissa's senior session was one of my favorites this past year. We found some gems of nature in downtown Holland and caught a hazy, pastel-sky sunset at Tunnel Park beach. It was a joy to spend the beautiful evening photographing Marissa--she is kind, spunky, and so gracefully lovely; she made my job far too easy 🙂

Bella | Downtown Grand Rapids Senior Photo Session

Grand Rapids gave us a perfect summer day in July for Bella's senior photos. We wandered around downtown,

finding funky buildings, vibrant plants, some good hair-tossing wind, and endless exuberant smiles from sweet, spunky Bella.
